Jblue: Making Steak Buffets Accessible to Everyone
Founded in 2011 and headquartered in Sichuan, China, Jblue (Jibilu) is a national buffet chain built on a simple but powerful vision: a steak buffet that everyone can afford. While Western steakhouses were often priced out of reach for ordinary Chinese families, Jblue set out to change that—offering unlimited steak, seafood, and a wide variety of dishes at a price point that makes dining out accessible to all.
Starting from a single location in Nanchong, Jblue has grown into one of China‘s largest buffet brands, now operating nearly 200 stores across 16 provinces and municipalities. Its menu brings together over 200 dishes—from freshly grilled steaks and seafood to sushi, hot dishes, and desserts—all served in a modern, comfortable setting designed for family gatherings and casual celebrations.
The Challenge: Standing Out in a Crowded Buffet Market
China’s buffet industry is fiercely competitive. With thousands of self-service restaurants across the country—and new ones opening every year—operators increasingly find themselves competing on the same battleground: price.
For Jblue, this created a real strategic problem:
Homogeneous competition. Most buffets offer a nearly identical lineup—steaks, hot dishes, sushi, desserts. With little to distinguish one restaurant from another, customers have few reasons to choose Jblue over a competitor next door.
Weak product differentiation. Beyond being “affordable,” Jblue lacked a memorable signature product—something customers would specifically come back for and recommend to others.
Price as the only weapon. When price is your only competitive advantage, margins get squeezed and brand loyalty stays low. Customers switch wherever it’s cheapest.
Limited kitchen flexibility. Adding new menu items typically means adding new equipment, more staff, and more kitchen space—costs that are hard to justify in an already thin-margin business.
The Bakers Rock Solution.
To help Jblue stand out in China’s crowded buffet market, we equipped their kitchens with our countertop 20-inch conveyor impinger oven—turning a single piece of equipment into a signature product engine.
Jblue’s vision is simple: “A steak buffet that everyone can afford.” But in China’s buffet industry, affordability alone is no longer enough. With thousands of self-service restaurants competing on price, differentiation is the real challenge. Most buffets offer a similar lineup of steaks, hot dishes, and desserts—leaving customers with little reason to choose one over another.
That’s where our oven came in. By adding a 20-inch countertop conveyor oven, Jblue introduced a new signature star product alongside their steak: freshly baked pizza. And the same oven does far more than pizza—it also bakes meat skewers, snacks, and more, all from one compact unit. No need to invest in multiple pieces of equipment; no need to give up valuable kitchen space.
Mr Li, Jblue’s founder, said: ‘We wanted a product that would make us memorable, not just affordable. This oven gave us that—and it turned out to be one of the most flexible pieces of equipment in our kitchen.”
